Welcome.
This I Believe...
This is a video I put together to share my beliefs about becoming a teacher. In the video is an assortment of pictures from my life of people who have inspired me and shaped the person I have become today. From this video you will learn the reason's I want to teach and see the people who have touched my life. Read more about my thoughts and belief's of this project.
My Classroom.
I created this classroom representation of what I would like my kindergarten class to one day look like. It was created on a website that was easy to maneuver but hard retrieve my final project from. I took a risk and found a website I have never used before called Classroom Architech. The construction of this classroom promotes many things. I wanted a room where my students can easily collaborate. I arranged the tables so they are roughly close and the students can confide in one another. At the top of the picture there is a rug with a shelf there on the shelf there are blocks, barbies, dress up clothes, and cars that the students can use there imagination an play with. That was my student centered learning corner. Also in my classroom is a technology corner. It is equipt with two computers, a projector, and smartboard with a webcam. This gives my students assessibility and transparency, it open's up there world to online, and helps them stay connected to up and coming things. I only hope that one day my dream classroom will unfold before me.

My dream after college is to be a kindergarten teacher. I would love to have a full day class instead of an AM and or PM class. For my 21st century classroom I created an all day kindergarten class. Every morning the students will arrive around at 8:50, 9:00 o'clock. Each day we will open with morning annoucements, televised to each room by the fifth graders. We will then open the day and discuss the weather, the days of the week, numbers we have covered to the day, the rules of the classroom, and the I CAN messages on the board. We will learn a new letter of the alphebet each week and review the one's we have learned prior. We will break up into groups for learning centers where the students will work on writting, reading, math, and social studies. They do worksheet activities, they use the computers, and they do art activities. During that time they can collaborate with one another and discuss problems and challenges they may be facing. They will have time to run around, play and have a snack, and then they have play centers. This time is for the students to use there imaginations and rome freely aournd the room. They can play with the blocks, dress up area, house, kitchen, or tool shop units. They can color or draw and I will work on assements at this time as well if they are needed. This time is for student centered learning where they develop skills to become life long self directed learners, through sharing, collaborating, and explaoring. After this we have an elective every day that is either gym, art, computer, or library. From the elective they will go to lunch in the lunch room with the other kindergarten class. After lunch we work on writting. We will have another school we write letters back and fourth with. Along with the letters I will incorperate technology into the class and we will use the video chat divise Skype to communitate with the class were writting to along with other kindergarten classes around the world to show each other the things we have been working on. We will have a webcam on top of the smartboard so the whole class can be involved. Even as kindergarteners I believe transparency is important to stay connected to the world. We will also be working on books and each week work on a new story for the book. At the end of the year each student will be able to take home there book. After writting, my class will solve math problems. So the students can be more actively involved we will use concrete objects to solve our addition and subtraction problems. We also work on social studies and science throughout the day. The class will learn about holidays and the common core standards for science. After the full day of kindergarten they will pack up and be sent to the buses to go home.
Instructional Glimpse.
This lesson is for a kindergarten class learning the alphebet, specifically letter A.
Big or Essential Question:
How can we sound out and write the letter A?
Lesson Objectives:
Using a powerpoint on the smartboard, the students will be able to sound out and write the letter A, with help from a song and visual representation.
Assessment:
Worksheet on letter A
Materials and Resources:
Letter A person, power point, smart board, worksheet
Anticipatory Set:
Present letter A person he is the motivation to learn letter A, then go through the power point where the class will hear the different sounds of letter A, they will see the difference between lower case and upper case A, and they will get to use the smart board to actively participate in the letter A lesson.
Procedures:
1.Present letter A person and explain it is the first letter of the alphabet and that is what we will be learning about today
2. Students pass him around to see A and what he represents
3. Begin teaching the power point
4. Students will actively participate in the powerpoint writing section and sing-a-long
5. I will hand out the letter A worksheet and give directions
6. We will work on the worksheet as a class
7. I will walk around and assist students who are having difficulty
Adaptations:
On the worksheet the some words have symbols next to them
ex. color = a crayon
Closure:
Before we move on the class will be asked to write a word with the letter A in it on piece of paper
Lesson Evaluation/ Reflection:
In this section the students achievement (how successful was the lesson)
My technology Integration.
Before I entered this course I wasn't up to date with technology in fact the only technology I really used was facebook, email occasionally, and twitter. Social networking sites was for the most part as far as I had went with my technology. After all I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher I thought to myself how was I ever going to incorporate technology into the classroom. It was just never an easy thing to learn for me. However during this course I have become technology inclined although there are things I still might not be able to do I have confidence with it now. I took many risks throughout the semester and came up with new ideas on how to include technology in my classroom. Of course I will stay connected by e-mail and the phone, but my life is no longer limited to that. As you have read earlier my class will use Skype to connect to the rest of the kindergarten classes around the world. I will have a website that will have the class schedule and routines, the rules will be listed, there will be a weekly messenger, and a calendar of events. This will help the parents become aware of what there children are learning each week and what they may be doing. Each week a video will be posted on the website that the students make with the flip camera's in class, talking to the parents and telling them about class. On the website there will be a place for comments, concerns, and a spot for messages back to the class. The first day of school I will record each student on the computer and ask them there biggest fear of kindergarten, and at the end of the year I will record them sharing their fondest memories of kindergarten. This video will be uploaded through windows movie maker or imovie and will be shared with the incoming kindergarten class to let the younger students know that they aren't alone everyone is scared but also how much fun they are going to have in kindergarten and of course it will be shared on the website. Other technology in the room will be a smart board that will actively engage the students. They can come up and tap it, or write on it. My classroom will have two computers as well as mine, where the students can use education games and activities to learn in a different way. Another way I will stay connected as a teacher is blogger I think its a great way to find out information and stay connected with a wide group of teachers. Since technology is a constant growing field I will make sure my students and myself are up to date with the latest updates.
As a PLN learner and teacher I plan to use Twitter to stay connected. There are many websites teacher's and students can use to stay connect. Twitter is a great tool for a teacher to use to stay connected to other teachers. I can find other kindergarten teachers teaching the same lesson and share creative ideas. We could even set up a Skype session with our classes. These networks are a great way for teachers to stay connected to students, teachers and parents around the world.
